There are numerous organizations and agencies with programs to enable you to arrange and finance, or help finance, public readings by Joe Blades. In-class and private readings, talks, lectures, workshops, etc. may also be possible through other programs or through direct privately-funded contracts. Some publishers might have monies to assist with book launch promotional activities.

For public readings within Canada, including many at universities and in festivals, the organizations and agencies with programs include:

Canada Council for the Arts /
1. Literary Readings, Literary Festivals and Author Residencies
“This Canada Council for the Arts program increases knowledge and appreciation of Canadian writing by providing opportunities for writers to read from their works. The program also provides financial assistance to organizations that wish to retain the services of a writer-in-residence and are able to match the contribution made by the Canada Council. The purpose of the author residencies is to encourage exchanges between the author and the community, and to enable the author to work on a writing project.”
    Deadlines:
• 1 March: for readings, festivals and author residencies between 1 July and the following 30 June. (Author residencies have only one deadline per year.)
• 1 September: for readings and festivals between 1 January and 31 December annually.
