New Muse of Contempt was founded as a correspondence art project by Joe Blades while on a curatorial internship in New York City in 1987. Until 1999–2000 it was a semi-annual international forum for correspondence art and interesting creative writings. New Muse of Contempt publishes a wide range of new and established written and visual artists from Canada and beyond.

New Muse of Contempt is generally published in an 8.5" x 5.5" b&w format (though there has been a video issue, colour, and packaged assemblages of contributor-made artworks—stickers, stamps, photos, screen prints, copier art, collages, etc.).

Submissions of pithy poetry (esp. visual/concrete poetry, found poetry and homolinguistic text translations), short fiction, essays, book reviews welcome by post if accompanied by a SASE (Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope) with Canadian postage stamps (not USA postage) or International Postal Reply Coupons.

Contributions of correspondence art—from collage and rubber stamps, stickers, photos and drawings, to project and exhibition announcements.
