“exuberant experimentation and openness of all sorts . . . a defiant ‘road book’ reminiscent of Jack Kerouac’s Mexico City Blues. This book is madcap, zany, zesty, manic and also, here and there, sweetly lyrical.”
—George Elliott Clarke, Halifax Sunday Herald

“Kinetic and madcap”
—R.M. Vaughan

A four-part poetry collection from the road: the Prairies up-close; being a professional poet in for the long haul; a suite of poems explores Oak Bay on Vancouver Island; and the book concludes with the sensorial Trans-Canada meditation poemscape “t sea ache.” This book was written on the road, mainly while on an 11-reading, 14-day cross-Canada tour promoting the five-poet anthology Open 24 Hours (Broken Jaw Press, 1997).

open road west (artist edition) is a richly illustrated full-colour PDF eBook. Contains all the poems of the original book plus numerous photographs by Joe Blades and journal-gathered collage of artifacts including plants, stickers, placemats, brochures, maps, boarding pass and a BC Ferries sugar packet.

Joe Blades is the editor of Jive Talk: George Fetherling in Interviews & Documents (Broken Jaw & BJP eBooks, 2001), Great Lakes Logia (Broken Jaw & BJP eBooks, 2001), and Crossroads Cant (Broken Jaw, 1997); the author of a score of poetry chapbooks as well as the books Cover Makes a Set (SpareTime Editions, 1990), River Suite (Insomniac Press, 1998 & BJP eBooks, 2000), and casemate poems (widows and orphans, 2004). A visual artist and community radio producer/host, he lives in Fredericton NB.
