Joe Blades, editor
Jive Talk: George Fetherling in Interviews & Documents
Joe Blades, editor

Jive Talk is a sort of portrait of the author, not an exercise in biography exactly, more like the series of working sketches a portrait artist will prepare before getting down to the actual painting. Blades, as editor, has saved those sketches, and offered them up to the reader. It’s an offer well worth accepting.”
— Ray Cronin, The Daily Gleaner

In the course of promoting and discussing the 50 books he’s written or edited, George (formerly known as Douglas) Fetherling, once called “our ranking man-of-letters” by Books in Canada, has found himself interviewed about writers, trends and issues, as he’s observed them from his extraordinary insider/outsider perspectiive. By scouring sources from The Globe and Mail and Queen’s Quarterly to defunct magazines and the archives of community radio stations, Joe Blades has pulled together highlights from three decades of commentary on Canada’s writing life.

George Fetherling, author, editor, teacher, small-press publisher and visual artist, is the author of such works as Travels by Night: A Memoir of the Sixties and Selected Poems. He lives in Vancouver.

Joe Blades is the editor of Great Lakes Logia (Broken Jaw & BJP eBooks, 2001); the author of casemate poems (Waterloo ON: Widows and Orphans, 2004), Open Road West (Broken Jaw & BJP eBooks, 2000), River Suite (Insomniac Press, 1998 & BJP eBooks, 2000) and Cover Makes a Set (SpareTime Editions, 1990). Blades is also visual artist, and community radio producer/host. He lives in Fredericton NB.
